Web/Interactive Technical Project Manager

The Web/Interactive Technical Project Manager (PM) is responsible for facilitating successful project execution via interaction with technologies such as HTML, CSS and JavaScript, etc. in order to achieve a high level of customer satisfaction and project profitability. Candidates for this position must have solid 3+ years’ experience developing, managing and or leading technical web-based projects.

The PM works closely with Sales, Account Managers, and the technical staff to manage/coordinate projects from the beginning through the completion. The PM is responsible for budget management ensuring that projects are being delivered on-time and on-budget. In those unusual situations when a project goes over-budget, the PM makes sure there is buy-in at the executive level. Further, the PM maintains a detailed record of each project within our project management system, SalesForce LPS.

Duties:

Team Management

• Manage day-to-day operational and tactical aspects of multiple projects. Coordinate a team consisting of developers, designers, business analysts, quality assurance and others to ensure that project progress is on schedule and within budget.
• Enable project team success by identifying and addressing risk factors, external dependencies, and other issues.

Technical Ability

• It is imperative that the candidate for this position have a solid technical background developing and or managing the development of web-based projects. Solid experiences with both client side technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Ajax, etc.) as well as server side technologies (PHP, ASP.NET, Ruby, Classic ASP, Cold Fusion, etc.) are requirements for this position.
• As technical liaison, it’s important that the PM is able to understand the internal and external technical teams so that the PM can properly provide direction as well as effectively communicate to the non-technical participants (such as the client’s chief marketing officer, CMO). The candidate for this position should have a comfort level in discussing and translating the technical aspects of our technology (HTML, JavaScript, other programming languages, etc.) into non-technical “layman’s terms” for our non-technical clients and partners.

Customer Management

• Provide final review and approval of all project deliverables prior to delivery.
• Identify changes in scope; quantify project impact in terms of risk, time and budget.
• Provide weekly status reports to client point person including activities, accomplishments, and budget updates.

Project Accountability

• Review project proposals to determine time constraints, cost limitations, staffing and resource requirements.
• Control project cost and manage project risk. Achieve revenue goals for projects.
• Ability to analyze project progress and provide reports that can both predict future performance and accurately represent past performance.
• Provide Account Manager with reports and metrics that predict future resource utilization, task completion and budget projections.

General

Skills/Requirements:

• 3+ years of experience in technical web/interactive project management or similar technical project leadership in an advertising agency/interactive marketing environment.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects in various stages of completion.
• Demonstrated understanding of development platforms.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Comfortable with technical concepts.
• “Own” projects which will require typically between 45 – 50 hours per week.

Projects will vary in size and scope. A strong willingness to adapt to the client’s needs without compromising design standards are required for this position.

Web Developer

We are looking for a Web Developer who is a self starter, can multi-task, prioritize and complete projects accurately and on a timely schedule.  The successful candidate will have a creative eye and the ability to determine what functionality works best.  Strong communication and documentation skills are required.

The Web Developer designs, develops, and maintains web projects. He/She works closely with the programming group and has solid experience in building web sites. Strong HTML skills and practical experience with other web based languages and technologies such as CSS, ASP.NET, AJAX, and JavaScript are required. Also required is knowledge of database development, especially with SQL Server. Email marketing program experience is a plus.

Responsibilities:

1.     It is extremely important to achieve a general understanding of a project’s scope and purpose.
2.     Assist the Lead Programmer in refining the technical approach to a project.
3.     Create web content.
4.     Be aware of web limitations.  Such as browsers, languages, and graphics.
5.     Maintain his/her schedule and be responsible for understanding the requirements of each task including completing and following up on those tasks.
6.     Update the Lead Programmer on relevant milestones and obstacles in their day to day work.
7.     Assist the QA department in testing of coded pages and applications.

Expectations:

1.     Time allocated to billable coding/developer tasks should be around 80%.
2.     Identify and recommend ways to make our processes more efficient and more effective.
3.     Ability to recognize poor design/content/implementation and make the Lead Programmer aware of potential issues.
4.     Must be able to follow the existing technical and visual design of a site.
5.     Become proficient and highly accurate in most programming languages used by the Interactive Department.
6.     Learn current and new tools for productive code generation.
7.     Work effectively as a member of the department and in collaboration with Lead Programmer, Quality Analyst, Systems Analyst, Project Management, Interactive Strategic Services, etc.
8.     Use all “open time” – or make time available when needed – to assist in research of new technologies and approaches.
9.     Comprehensive knowledge of good/bad web design and implementation.
10.  Some knowledge of web servers.
11.   Being able to recognize one’s own limitations and ask questions when appropriate. A good developer knows the difference between being stumped to a point of needing assistance and encountering a puzzler that should be worked through on your own.

Qualifications:

1.     BA/BS degree or comparable combination of post-high school education and professional experience.  Academic concentrations in relevant areas preferred (e.g., Computer Science, etc.).
2.     Previous development experience – and a general knowledge of business-to-business marketing.
