Job Description

The Account Strategist is passionate about uncovering business, market and brand insights that shape innovative thinking and drive creative ideas to help clients grow. The successful candidate leads the development of brand, marketing and communications strategies and is responsible for the creation, implementation and measurement of integrated communications programs.

This position serves as the point person in leading strategic engagements and ensuring a positive, branded client experience for strategic accounts – companies and organizations for strategic planning and development of their brand and integrated communications programs. The Account Strategist collaborates with clients to identify business needs and objectives, establish target markets and audiences, define product/service benefits, articulate differentiation and set key messages.

The Account Strategist must be an excellent interpreter of data and information and skilled at turning research into insights and action. The successful candidate conducts primary research and leverages secondary research to provide valuable business and marketing insights. The Account Strategist analyzes comprehensive quantitative and qualitative information to form clear, focused strategic recommendations. This person must be a confident, engaging presenter and communicator.

Strong leadership skills are required for success in this position. The Account Strategist inspires the creative team with compelling strategy and guides the broader client team with sound business acumen. The Account Strategist must be entrepreneurial, resourceful, detail oriented, self-directed and able to multi-task.

The Account Strategist achieves success when: (1.) the client’s business objectives are met and measurable results are accomplished; (2.) the client’s financial commitment increases and the work and relationship is profitable and (3.) billability and revenue-generation goals are met.

Duties

The Account Strategist:

  • Leads strategic engagements by collaborating closely with the client, conducting research, analyzing research results and forming insights, and developing and presenting strategic brand, marketing and communications recommendations.
  • Conducts or commissions research to inform brand, marketing and communications strategy using both qualitative methods, such as focus groups and interviews, and quantitative methods, such as online surveys and demographic audience analyses.
  • Collects, organizes and analyzes detailed data and information regarding audience demographics and socio-economics, market and industry trends, products and services, competitors, as well as sales intelligence and results.
  • Helps clients define their target markets and audiences, as needed, by conducting research, collaborating with the client and applying market segmentation techniques.
  • Translates research insights into brand, marketing and communications strategies that align with the client’s business objectives.
  • Writes brand and communications strategies and messaging platforms in narrative and/or presentation form and verbally delivers strategic presentations to clients.
  • Manages timelines, logistics, budgets and billing for strategic engagements to ensure milestones are met, execution is flawless and the work is profitable.
  • Develops integrated communications programs focused on achieving the client’s business objectives. The Account Strategist details the tactical elements of the program, leverages digital marketing and lead nurturing techniques, establishes clear metrics to measure program performance and develops a detailed tactical calendar and budget.
  • Communicates the brand and/or communications strategy and client’s expectations to the Creative Director, Account Manager and client team.
  • Meets regularly with team members to receive progress updates, review and approve work, offer guidance and ensure creative and production efforts continue on strategy, on budget and on
  • Checks and approves creative/production work prior to client presentation.
  • Tracks the performance of integrated programs, using Accountable Campaignssm methodology and provides regular reports to clients offering insights, feedback and recommended program adjustments.
  • Counsels strategic clients on brand, marketing and communications issues and opportunities by staying apprised of developments in the client’s business, marketing and industry trends, competitor activity, and cultural and social trends that impact target audience behavior.
  • Proactively proposes new, strategically aligned projects and initiatives to clients. The Account Strategist is always considering new ways to extend and sustain the client relationship and presenting ideas with a supporting business rationale.
  • Pursues new business opportunities, developing and delivering capabilities presentations and writing proposals and scopes of work.
  • Assumes account management responsibilities on projects and/or client relationships where it is not feasible to assign an account manager.

 

Qualifications / Requirements

 

  • A degree in marketing, business, communications or related area of study.
  • A minimum of five years of strategic planning experience focused on building brands, marketing initiatives and/or creating integrated communications programs.
  • Hands-on experience conducting qualitative and quantitative research with a proven ability to identify insights and use them to form strategic brand, marketing and communications recommendations.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of digital and mobile marketing and analytics, social media, content marketing and lead nurturing techniques.
  • A solid understanding of business and marketing fundamentals.
  • Proven ability to inspire creative teams with clear, insightful, actionable strategies and supporting rationale, and the ability to translate strategic detail into focused creative briefs.
  • Excellent client-facing skills; a communications style and work style that engages the client collaboratively and creates a positive client experience.
  • Proven track record in client service; demonstrated success in providing clients with on-strategy work and managing projects to on-time, on-budget completion.
  • Excellent business and sales writing skills; experience writing conference briefs, proposals, strategy documents, communications plans, and presentation talking points.
  • Strong verbal presentation skills; experience presenting to senior-level decision makers with an ability to win confidence and their business.
  • A working knowledge of marketing firm business operations, policies and processes.
  • A successful track record of winning new business in a marketing firm environment.
  • Fluency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint and digital technologies.
  • Strong organization and project management skills with the ability to set priorities and work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Must be a self-starter, able to analyze and solve problems and work autonomously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong negotiating and decision-making skills.
  • Must work well in a team-oriented environment and in collaborating on assignments.
  • Ability to be diplomatic, assertive, articulate, persuasive, flexible, confident, competitive and creative; an enthusiastic team player who demonstrates professionalism and attention to detail in producing quality work.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and a vehicle with appropriate insurance.
